"Vegan Curious" - Editorial Design

Editorial Design for an empathetic cookbook - the “Vegan Curious” by Marika Netzel. A vegan, a down-to-earth chef, an empath, an educator and what some might call a social justice warrior.

I had a pleasure to work on this project with Marika and tweaking it to the very end. This publication contains over 200 pages that give you recipes, but also feed and unlock your imagination.

Bestly described by the author herself: “A book that you will scribble your notes in. A book that empowers you to improvise new dishes. A book with recipes that aren’t frustrating or complicated but functional, easy and accessible. A book, that apart from the recipes in these pages, gives you the basis for even more sparked by your imagination. A cookbook that also provides food for thought, as food is and always will be political. Plus, I just wouldn’t be me if i didn’t include a chapter full of resources, progressive concepts and liberating thoughts to digest.”

My goal was connecting functional minimalism with “imperfect” accents, such handmade icons. I felt like realising project where I could play around my graphic design and illustration skills together was a lot of fun.

The presented spreads come from the cookbook’s various chapters, such “Dips & Bread Spreads”, “Mains”, “Desserts”, etc. The style and way of building layouts is consistent, but slightly changed in each chapter to make the reading a bit more playful and interactive for the reader.
